Love for Japan

Found this website today, and I wanted to share it with anyone out there who's artsy. It's a project to create a poster to sell as a fundraiser for Japan. The cool part? Your artwork goes on the poster, along with submissions from other people.

Check it out at Love for Japan.

Love this site design.

Local Getaway

Traveling is great, but unfortunately not something we can do all the time. I love having local getaway spots to have a mini vacation. For me it's the spa. I'm lucky enough to live close to Mirbeau, one of the top spas and top small resorts in North America, according to Conde Nast Traveler. The resort has a french theme, and a garden that's straight out of a Monet painting. I love the spa.

When I go, I love the Ashiatsu massage. It's a backwalking massage. It sounds weird, but it feels great.

What's your favorite local getaway? And, what's your favorite treatment at the spa?

Shin Sin

Apparently when your shins start hurting, you should stop running.

The weather finally got nice this week -60 degrees. I was thrilled to run outside.

I was so happy to get out in the sun, listen to Sublime albums on my iPod, and get back on my usual running route through the neighborhood.

It was so nice out, that I chose to ignore the shin pain, which I knew could be the start of the dreaded shin splints.

After my run yesterday, I could barely walk. Now, no more running. Just ice, rest, and stretches. Ugh!

Nostalgia

Tonight's featured flick: My Girl

Source: IMDB (view)
I used to watch this movie all the time. Watching it as an adult is just as good.

I love Vada's poem at the end:

Weeping willow with your tears running down,
why do you always weep and frown?
Is it because he left you one day?
Is it because he could not stay?
On your branches he would swing, do you long for the happiness that day would bring?
He found shelter in your shade.
You thought his laughter would never fade.
Weeping willow, stop your tears.
There is something to calm you fears.
You think death has ripped you forever apart.
But I know he'll always be in your heart.

Other favorite parts:
  • When Vada and Thomas J become blood brothers. I totally did that too when I was little!
  • Harry tells Shelly he doesn't want to go to a movie, but that he likes Bingo. As a kid, that seemed fine, but as an adult, I realize how weird and lame that is!
  • Thomas J says: "I'm going to be an Acrobat when I grow up" - Little kid dreams are the best :-)
  • I love when Vada and Thomas J Kiss, and then say the pledge of allegiance so it won't be awkward.
What's your favorite movie from your childhood?

Baby Cakes

I went to my big sister's baby shower this weekend :-)
The shower was beautiful... so much pink to celebrate the little baby girl!
I loved the cake, which was made by a friend of the mom-to-be. It made me want to take a cake making class!

Nail Art

If I had nails like these, I would just stare at them all day and never get anything done. I want.

Summer Daydream

LITC did a post on daydreams of far away places and asked, "When you daydream, where do you find yourself?"

Here's where I go...

Fenway Beach at Weekapaug, Rhode Island
Another shot at the beach in Rhode Island
Only a few months until sunshine, sand, and flip flops :-)
